LINCOLN, Neb. -- Authorities in the metro area announced that a missing inmate has been returned to custody after a traffic accident Wednesday evening.

Forty-seven-year-old Christopher Manzer was reported missing earlier Wednesday after not returning from his community job to Community Corrections Center-Lincoln.

The Lincoln Police Department reported that Manzer was in a traffic accident where he hit the back of a semi-truck around 9 p.m.

The Police Department said they were called to a vehicle crash near Highway 2.

When LPD officers arrived, they said they found Manzer trapped in the vehicle, and Lincoln Fire & Rescue extricated him. Manzer reportedly walked to the ambulance for treatment.

Authorities reported that an officer on the scene found documents in the crashed vehicle and recognized Manzer's name as the CCC-L inmate who was reported missing after cutting off an ankle monitor.

LPD said that Manzer was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries, and taken into the custody of the Nebraska Corrections Department.

Manzer is now facing additional charges from the incident. LPD said he was cited and released for resisting arrest, providing false information, careless driving, no operators license, and no insurance.

Officials said Manzer started his sentence on July 29, 1993. He was sentenced 13 years and four months to life on charges out of Pierce County that include second degree murder, assault, and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Manzer has a parole board hearing scheduled for January 2023.
