Diller-Odell's volleyball season ends in state quarterfinals

The Diller-Odell Griffins volleyball season is over after a loss in the opening round of the 2022 NSAA state volleyball tournament.
The fifth-seeded Griffins lost to the fourth-ranked Shelton Bulldogs who won the match 3-1 (25-11, 25-16, 20-25, 29-27).
Unforced errors in the first two sets put Diller-Odell well behind their competition and in deficits they simply couldn't overcome. Set three was a different story. Diller-Odell led most of the way and never trailed by more than a point in the third set.
In set four, the Griffins found themselves down six points on multiple occasions, including at 21-15, staring down a loss. Diller-Odell rallied though, even taking a 24-23 lead late in set four. The Bulldogs and Griffins would dual into an extra long sets. Back-to-back overpassed serve receives tipped back on Diller-Odell's side by Shelton eventually gave the Bulldogs a 29-27 set four win and 3-1 match victory.
Senior Karli Heidemann led the way for Diller-Odell with 32 kills. Freshman Jalyn Branson finished with 20 kills to pace Shelton followed closely by Dru Niemack who had 18 kills for the Bulldogs.
It's the first win at the NSAA state volleyball tournament in school history for Shelton. Diller-Odell finds itself out of the tournament in the quarterfinals for the second consecutive year. The Griffins end the season 29-6.
Shelton will face No. 1 seed Howells-Dodge Friday morning in the semifinals.
