LINCOLN, Neb. -- A Lincoln man received five years and three months in prison on Friday for drug-related charges.

U.S. Attorney Steven Russell reported that 19-year-old Amgad Gaber, of Lincoln, was convicted of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

Gaber was sentenced to a total of five years and three months imprisonment and will begin a three-year term of supervised release once he completes his prison sentence. There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents, Lincoln Police encountered Gaber in a parked car at Antelope Park after the park had closed on Oct. 11, 2021.

Officers said they could see smoke coming from inside the car and could smell burnt marijuana. Gaber was wearing a small satchel around his waist containing marijuana, and he reportedly admitted he had marijuana.

LPD said the officers noticed Gaber had a suspicious walk and found a loaded 9mm handgun containing a magazine with 28 rounds tucked in his waistband after they searched his person. They also reportedly found a second bag of marijuana in Gaber’s pants. Police searched Gaber’s cell phone and saw messages and photos showing narcotics dealing.

This case was investigated by the Lincoln Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
