LINCOLN, Neb. -- A Lincon man was sentenced to over five years in prison for drugs and a firearm.

U.S. Attorney Steven Russell reported that 21-year-old Brandon Escamilla, of Lincoln, was sentenced on Aug. 11 after being convicted of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

Escamilla received a total of five years and four months of imprisonment and will then serve three years on supervised release once he completes his prison sentence. There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents, several members of the No Name Demons criminal street gang were arrested by investigators for the Lincoln Police Department and FBI in November 2020. Officers reportedly found messages and videos on cell phones and on social media between August and November 2020, that showed Escamilla was displaying gang signs, firearms, cash, and marijuana while inside his residence.

Officials said investigators got a search warrant for Escamilla’s Lincoln residence in December 2020. Escamilla was arrested after running from police officers when they arrived to use the search warrant on Dec. 16, 2020. Officers reportedly found a loaded Springfield Armory XDM 9mm handgun and his cell phone that Escamilla threw as he was running from the officers. Investigators also found marijuana on Escamilla’s person.

Authorities said investigators search Escamilla's residence and found 7.2 grams of psilocyn mushrooms and 154.5 grams of marijuana, THC brownies, a digital scale, and a Taurus 856 revolver containing five live rounds in his bedroom. They also did a search of his phone that reportedly showed Escamille talking to others about the distribution of a variety of drugs along with photos and videos of marijuana and Escamilla holding a firearm.

According to court documents, the drugs were sent to the Nebraska State Patrol Crime Lab and a forensic scientist confirmed the presence of marijuana and psilocyn, both Schedule I controlled substances.

This case was investigated by the Lincoln Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
