Fairbury swears in new city administrator, deputy city attorney

FAIRBURY, NE — Two city officials in southeast Nebraska officially took their seats Tuesday night.
Fairbury swore in its new city administrator and deputy city attorney at its latest meeting. Jacob Matthews, who comes to Fairbury from Denver, is the town's newest city administrator. He takes over for Robert Messbarger, whose last official day is Friday, July 22.
Messbarger has taken a different job in a town closer to his family. The city council approved Matthew's contract at a meeting earlier this month.
Also Tuesday night, new deputy city attorney Kurth Brashear was sworn in to his spot. He takes over in the role from Mark Fahleson, who was recently promoted from deputy city attorney to city attorney.
Former Fairbury city attorney David Bargen resigned in June after being appointed to a judgeship in southeast Nebraska.
