BEATRICE – A two-year-old child was found safe and in good health near Clatonia, following a brief search.

Gage County Sheriff’s Officers were summoned to a missing child report in a rural area Wednesday afternoon, where the mother of a two-year-old boy indicated he had inadvertently been let out of the house by an older sibling while the mother was busy.

After not being able to locate him in the yard, Clatonia Fire and Rescue volunteers were paged and met deputies to assist in a search.  Contacts were made with Jefferson County Emergency Management to have a drone on standby and for K-9 units from the Saline County Sheriff’s Office and Beatrice Police.

Gage County Sheriff Millard Gustafson says as deputies were nearing the home, Clatonia Volunteer Fire personnel located the boy, standing in the road just over a half-mile from his home.  The parents responded to the scene and the child was checked over by Clatonia paramedics.  He was not injured and in good health.

The boy had gone outside and was looking for his sister when he went missing. The parents noticed the child missing within a few minutes and notified law enforcement immediately.
