Machete-wielding man arrested by Beatrice Police
BEATRICE – Police investigating a report of a man wielding a machete arrested a 33-year-old male for threatening to kill others.
Beatrice Police were sent Friday to a reported disturbance at an apartment in the five hundred block of North 11th…where a man allegedly was making threats to kill people.
Police arrested Luke Vater and located a machete underneath a bed, in the residence. Police said the man told them he was carrying around the machete but not threatening anyone. Police spoke with a witness who said the man was waving around the machete, threatening to kill a child and anyone who got in his way. Police said the child who allegedly was threatened armed herself with a baseball bat to defend herself.
Vater was arrested on suspicion of 3rd degree domestic assault, terroristic threats, child abuse and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

In a separate incident on July 4th, Beatrice Police arrested a male during a welfare check after officers received a citizen report. Police spoke with the man, who was unable to answer questions and seemed disoriented. While speaking with police, the man allegedly handed over a baggie containing a substance that field tested as methamphetamine. A search also recovered a glass pipe with suspected drug residue.
Police arrested 72-year-old James Corkery, Sr. for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
