BEATRICE - The Beatrice Orangemen's bid to repeat as Class-B state champions came to an end on Tuesday night.

Beatrice fell to the Omaha Skutt Skyhawks 8-7, as Mason Kass walked off Beatrice with a single in the bottom of the seventh.

Beatrice struck first scoring one in the top of the first. Later on, Beatrice would plate a couple more with a two run single to right field by Caleb Jobman to put Beatrice ahead 3-1 -- the single came with two strikes and two outs. However, Skutt showed they could also do damage with two away. Orangemen starter Adam DeBoer walked four in the bottom of the third, allowing two runs to score, tying the game, but then it was Skutt's Gavin Brummond who went deep with a grand slam to put Skutt ahead 7-3.

Beatrice added another run in the fifth to make it 7-4, but the top of the seventh is where things got interesting. Tucker Timmerman went deep for the sixth time, driving in Max Reis who had been hit by a pitch to start the inning. Deegan Nelson then ripped a double to left and that run would score on a sac fly.

Skutt would eventually put Beatrice away in the bottom of the seventh with a single to win the game 8-7.

Beatrice ends their season at state, saying goodbye to ten seniors.

Tucker Timmerman did break the program ERA record with a .341 ERA only surrendering four runs in 2022, with juts two of them earned. Brandel Rickenberg had the prior record of .840.
