Lincoln man arrested for domestic assault, gets $250K bond

LINCOLN, Neb. -- A Lincoln man has been arrested following a domestic assault report from last week.
On Thursday, 61-year-old Bradley Jones allegedly assaulted his girlfriend verbally and physically.
According to a court affidavit, authorities received a call Thursday night stating that Jones allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and broke her phone. When deputies arrived a short time later, Jones' girlfriend said that he had left the residence before the officers arrived.
The reported victim allegedly said that they had an argument about financial issues which resulted in Jones becoming angry, verbally abusive before he reportedly physically assaulted her.
According to the affidavit, Jones is alleged to have strangled and punched her.
The reported victim then claimed that Jones had grabbed a rifle, pointed it at her, and using a racial slur saying he would "end" her. He then reportedly fled the residence with two other people in a vehicle.
Authorities said they did not locate a gun at the residence.
The affidavit said that Jones was contacted through a traffic stop and interviewed. He gave the same statement about arguing over finances, but denied getting physical with the victim as well as denying that he had the rifle during the argument.
One of the occupants of the vehicle stated that they had witnessed the two arguing, as well as Jones throwing closed fist punches at the reported victim before Jones grabbed her wrists to subdue her.
The witness also denied seeing a firearm being in Jones' possession during the incident.
According to the affidavit, authorities contacted the woman at the residence the next day in regards to the gun. After she said she had not found the gun, she gave authorities permission to search for the gun. Investigators searched the room of the incident and had found a live .270 Win rifle cartridge, court documents state.
One of the passengers with Jones said that Jones had taken them to a field where he hid the rifle in a wooded area. The two witnesses assisted investigators in finding the rifle along with more ammunition - all identical to the rounds found in the bedroom, authorities said.
Jones has been cited and lodged at the Lancaster County Adult Detention Facility for third-degree domestic assault, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, terroristic threats, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person; and was cited for obstructing government operations, theft, tampering with physical evidence, and littering.
His bond is set for $250,000.
Jones was arrested in 2020 on charges similar to the ones he was booked for Thursday.
According to court records, Jones was charged in 2020 with third-degree domestic assault when he verbally and physically assaulted his girlfriend. At that time he had pointed a BB gun at her while calling her names, grabbed her by the neck, and threw a 6 pack of a bottled beverage with one of the bottles hitting the victim in the head. He was placed on probation for the 2020 incident.
