BEATRICE - The Beatrice Educational Foundation and a local auto dealership family has honored this year’s Paraeducator of the Year winner, in District 15.

Jan Steffen was honored at the Beatrice Middle School, receiving a $1,000 check thanks to the generosity of Zoellner Ford-Lincoln, in Beatrice.

Jason Zoellner noted that paraeducators play a very important role in the education of students, using their talents to help them discover on their own and meeting their individual needs.

Steffen is described by one of her nominators as “the most professional paraeducator I’ve worked with in my 22 years of teaching”….not arriving late or leaving early.”  Steffen was recognized for working tirelessly to foster effective communication with each of the teachers she works with.

The person nominating Steffens said “I often seek her counsel for feedback regarding my teaching strategies.”

Steffens works with students who have special needs and is credited with being good at coaxing students to think without giving them the answers.

Another nominator said Steffan goes beyond what is expected to provide educational support for Beatrice Middle School students and staff….and that her caring nature motivates students to learn new skills, improve self-esteem and be successful.
