SCC's Hartshorn earns Third-Team All-America honors

BEATRICE - Southeast Community College women's basketball player Hunter Hartshorn ends her career with high honors.
The Utica native was recently named to the 2021-2022 National Junior College Athletic Association D-2 Women's Basketball All-America Third Team. This comes in addition to her already prolific season in which she broke two records and tied another during her time at SCC. She set the record for 3-pointers in a single season (95) and in her two-year career (145). She also tied her mothers record of seven made triples in a single game.
"I really believe this wouldn't have been possible without all the trust and belief that Coach (Lynn) Schlake and Coach (Dennis) Remmers had in me," she said. “I have had some of the best teammates over the last two years that pushed me to be the best player I could be.”
Schlake, Storm head coach, said Hartshorn served as role model and leader for the group of young players on the team and that she deserved the honor.
“As a coach, it is always exciting for the program when a player receives this type of recognition,” he said. “It puts the team and school in a very positive spotlight throughout the state. It means a lot to see a player from a small high school in Nebraska have success on the national level and show that anything is possible.”
Hartshorn started 28 of the Storm’s 29 games this season, averaging 13.4 points per game. SCC finished with a 14-15 record.
She hasn’t decided where she will transfer, but hopes to study either business or occupational therapy.
