Police: Fillmore County Sheriff refused breathalyzer, field sobriety tests before arrest
SEWARD COUNTY, NE — Court documents are giving more details on what happened before the acting Fillmore County Sheriff was arrested earlier this month.
Fillmore County Sheriff Steve Julich is facing a DUI charge in Seward County after authorities responded to a crash the morning of March 20.
According to the arrest affidavit, when Seward County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene, they found a pickup in a ditch against a tree. Julich was in backseat when police arrived and told them someone else had been driving.
Court records indicate Julich told the deputies he had been drinking in Lincoln earlier that night and left the bar he was at with two other people, one of whom drove the pickup. When authorities asked him who the other two were, however, Julich couldn't provide any names. In the arrest affidavit, police claim there were so many belongings on seats in the truck, it couldn't have fit three people in it.
Police say Julich was twice asked to take a field sobriety test and a preliminary breath test, but refused both times. Court documents say Julich also declined to take a chemical test after being placed in custody.
Julich's arraignment is scheduled for April 20, in Seward County.
