Beatrice, Blue Springs among grant recipients for housing repair

Pre-application process indicates interest in the program

BEATRICE – The City of Beatrice will be getting grant support for owner-occupied housing rehabilitation.

City officials have been notified that a $547,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development will provide support for significant repairs and improvements to homes owned by low-to-moderate income residents.

The city’s application for the grant included pre-applications submitted by 43 local homeowners…who now may be eligible for assistance to make structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and weatherization improvements. 

The city will form a committee to review applications and make project recommendations to the city council, for final approval.   Applicants whose projects are selected will be notified by the city.

Seven owner occupied housing rehabilitation grants were approved by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.  A total of nearly $2.67 million was awarded. 

The Gage County community of Blue Springs will receive an owner-occupied housing rehabilitation grant of $315,000.   Other grants awarded include:

  • Malcolm $315,000
  • Hubbard $315,000
  • Talmage $315,000
  • Waverly $547,000
  • Wayne $315,000
