Peru State Bobcats Sweep the Yellowjackets

(Peru, Neb.) – On Tuesday, September 21, the Bobcats were able to get back into the win column with a Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) win over the visiting Graceland University Yellowjackets. The 'Cats swept Graceland 3-0.
Peru State improved to 3-13 overall and 1-3 in conference play while Graceland fell to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in the Heart.
Game Action
The Yellowjackets would get the first point of set number one. The 'Cats would be able to tie the game at 1-1 off an attacking error on Graceland.
After two straight points for Graceland, Peru State would off three straight points to take a 5-3 lead. During the three-point run there was a service error on Graceland and two service aces by Michelle Beer (Salem).
Peru State would get a three-point lead later in the set after a kill by Paige Crouch (Holton, Kan.) off the assist from Cassie Davis (Colorado Spring, Colo.). That would make it 10-7 in favor of the 'Cats.
The Bobcats saw their lead grow by two points after a kill by Alexandra Chavarria (Hollister, Calif.) off the assist from Davis and a kill by Hannia Rios (Toa Baja, P.R.) to see the lead hit 16-11.
Peru State would maintain their lead in the first set as they would go on to win 25-19 to take a 1-0 lead in the game.
The 'Cats would come out firing in the second set as they would score the first eight points of the set. Beer would get back-to-back kills off assists from Cheyenne Birkle (Holden, Mo.) and Davis. Chavarria would earn a kill off the assist from Davis. Davis would get an ace and there would be two attacking errors on the Yellowjackets. Finally, Sidney Peck (Manitoba, Canada) scored a kill off the pass from Davis.
From that point on Peru State was able to win the second set as their largest lead came at the end of the set when the score was 25-12. Peru State would be up 2-0 in the best-of-five Heart conference game.
The 'Cats got on the board in the third set off an error by Graceland. After the Yellowjackets tied the game at 1-1, Peru State scored three straight points – all by miscues from Graceland.
A service ace from Rios saw the lead extend to 10-3 in favor of the 'Cats. Peru State would lead 20-7, after Peck would get a kill off the set from Davis.
The Bobcats would win set number three 25-11 and earn a conference sweep.
Davis had five service aces while Beer added four service aces of her own. Peru State has a team had 12.
Chavarria added seven kills which led the 'Cats. Beer was second on the team with six kills.
Davis had game-high 18 assists. Rios added seven assists.
Tiana Cornist (Bellevue) added four block assists. Chavarria added three assisted blocks while Beer and Crouch each added two.

Peru State will be back at home on Friday night when visiting Benedictine College Ravens (6-8, 1-3) come to the AWAC. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
