NEBRASKA CITY – Hundreds gathered at Steinhart Park in Nebraska City Friday for prayer and candlelight vigil for six-year-old Liam Clowers.

Several residents spoke describing Liam as a grandson, a concrete construction critic, fan of pickup trucks like his dad’s and a sweet boy that could be counted on to show love to children who did not have many friends.

Gina Simrell of Small Beginnings said the vigil was conceived after a visit with the family.

Simrell: “We just knew that they needed to see a show of support in this community. The community is mourning and grieving and there is a lot of loss, a lot of confusion. We knew we needed to get our community together and bring them together in this moment tonight.”

She said donations can be dropped off directly at Gude Mortuary for the funeral expenses.

Small Beginnings will be placing buckets throughout the community for donations

First Nebraska Bank is collecting donations, as well.

There is Venmo donation site under foreverlovingliam.

Shine Your Light Nebraska City will be in the Sunken Parking lot Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. with Complete Behavior Health for crisis response.

Also available are Wellbeing Initiative and Arbor Psychiatric for anyone in need of support and those who would like to talk to someone.

Jeremy Warner of the First Baptist Church led in prayer.
