Beatrice city-wide large item collection, starts Monday

BEATRICE – Beatrice residents wanting to participate in this year’s annual Clean City large-item pick-up campaign have until five p.m. today, to register on the city’s website…or by contacting city offices.
The three-day hauling program for large items left at curbside is next Monday through Wednesday, April 28th through the 30th. Street Superintendent Jason Moore says typically, around 13-hundred residences register for the program.
Items must be placed at curbside by six a.m. of the day your particular area of the city being canvassed. The program is for large items only…..not regular garbage that is hauled away weekly. Rules of the program are listed on the city of Beatrice website.
"Make sure no tires, no hazardous cleaning materials, no garbage. If your items can fit in your garbage can...put it in your garbage can. This is a large item pick-up, and with that it means washers, dryers, cabinets, large toys, furniture...that type of stuff."
Old mattresses or box springs can be brought to the city’s compost site next to the Beatrice Area Solid Waste Agency landfill, southwest of the city…from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Persons bringing in mattresses must provide driver’s license identification for proof of residency.
The first area to be picked up by street crews and other utility personnel on Monday….will be addresses east of Sixth….south of Dorsey….north of Court and west of 19th.
"Monday has always been our big day, being the northeast corner of town. I don't know if its the most stops, but the locations that are out (with items). More people take advantage of it in the northeast corner of town. Tuesday is generally a fairly big day and then Wednesday...there's nowhere near as much out. Thursday is one of those days where if we had a glitch...just something we plan in there so we can...in case we missed something or something is our fault....that's what Thursday is."
On Tuesday, the area includes Hoyle’s Trailer Park and all addresses west of Sixth.
On the final day…Wednesday….addresses south of Court, east of Sixth and east of 19th will be covered.
Moore says the whole campaign is tackled by nine crew members using loaders and trucks.
