Falls City-Sacred Heart Smothers Anselmo-Merna in Opening Round of State GBB Tournament

LINCOLN, NE - The Falls City-Sacred Heart girls basketball team put on a defensive clinic in the first round of the Class D2 State GBB Tournament on Thursday, defeating Anselmo-Merna, 57-33, as heard on B103.
The Irish piled up a 20-8 advantage in turnovers and held the Coyotes to just 1/16 shooting from downtown. Overall, Anselmo-Merna shot just 26%. FC-SH hit 33% overall and 7/22 from 3-point land. The squad was also solid from the free throw line, hitting 14/19.
Falls City-Sacred Heart was led by the 19 points and four steals of Avery Santo. Jentry Lechtenberg impressed with a double-double (16 points & 12 rebounds), and Daycee Witt was balanced with ten points, five boards, and four assists.
Anselmo-Merna got eleven points from Makenna Miller, but she committed eight turnovers. Kayley Klein helped out with eight points and eleven rebounds.
The Coyotes' season closes at 20-6, while the Irish draw six-seed Archangels Catholic in the semifinals tonight at 7:45 p.m. on B103.
