SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — A Scottsbluff teenager accused in the January 20 killing of a 15-year-old has pleaded not guilty and waived his arraignment appearance in Scott Bluff County District Court.

Devante Castellaw, 17, submitted a written plea of not guilty and a waiver of appearance ahead of his scheduled arraignment Friday. He faces charges of second-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

Castellaw and co-defendant Corey Brotherhood Jr., 16, were arrested in connection with the death of Wyatt Reed, 15. The teens were arraigned in Scott Bluff County Court on January 24 and are each being held on a $1 million bond.

According to court documents, surveillance footage shows Castellaw and Rotherham among three teenagers chasing and assaulting Reeb. His stepmother later discovered him collapsed on the curb near Gary’s Auto Repair, bleeding from the back of his head and struggling to breathe.

Reeb was transported by Valley Ambulance to Regional West Medical Center, where an emergency room doctor found a stab wound to his heart. He was later flown to a Denver hospital for further treatment but succumbed to his injuries.

Castellaw is set for a pretrial conference at 8 a.m. April 16 in Scott Bluff County District Court. Brotherhood’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. February 5 in the same court.
