Lady Raiders Tame Tigers from Opening Tip

STERLING CO – The Sidney Lady Raiders improved to 8-3 on the season with a dominating win on the road at Sterling, Colorado on Tuesday evening. Tied 2-2 shortly after tipoff, the Lady Raiders scored the next 15 points to seize control of the game on the way to an 81-18 win over Sterling.

Sidney held Sterling to just four points in each quarter but the second, when the Tigers tallied six points. The Lady Raiders shot 57% from the floor for the game while holding Sterling to just over 24% shooting. Sidney finished the game with a season low eight turnovers while dishing out a season high 21 assists.

Every Lady Raider scored in the game paced by three Sidney players in double-figures. Kayla Westby led with 14 points. Carli Black added 11 points while Regan Nesbitt chipped in 10 points off the bench.

The Lady Raiders will be back on the court Friday when the travel to Broken Bow for a date with the Indians. The Junior Varsity game tips at 3:30 p.m. MST followed by the Varsity game at 5:00 p.m. Sidney will then take on Arlington on Saturday at 11:10 a.m. MST in the Girl’s Basketball Showcase at Kearney High School. Red Raiders’ Rally Falls Short in Second Loss

STERLING CO – A Jacob Slade three-pointer at the buzzer to end the first half and set the tone for a disastrous third quarter as Sidney suffered their second loss of the season, 61-54. Tied at 29-29, Slade pulled up from 30 feet to send the Sterling into intermission with a lead they would not relinquish in the second half.

Sidney’s offense sputtered coming out of the locker room as the Tigers continued to build on their advantage in the third period. The Red Raiders were held to just six points in the quarter, while the Tigers built a 47-34 lead heading into the final stanza.

Sterling extended their advantage to a game-high 15 points on back-to-back three pointers by senior a Colin Linn, 53-38 before Landon Riddle and Keian Kaiser fueled a Sidney rally. The pair combined on 18 of Sidney’s 19 fourth quarter points, however the Red Raiders could not get closer than seven points falling 61-54.

Keian Kaiser and Landon Riddle paced Sidney with 15 points each. Alek Doty chipped in 11 points in the loss. Four of Sterling’s six players that played in the game scored in double figures led by Colin Linn’s 21 points.
