Dale Duis was born in Odell, Nebraska on March 29, 1943, to William and Louise (Maatsch) Duis.  Dale's mom passed away giving birth to him.  He was raised by his grandparents, the Maatschs.  Dale weighed 3lbs 9 oz as his grandparents raised him on the oven door in a shoebox.  He attended Reynolds School and graduated in 1960.  He joined the Army in 1960 as a Sergeant #-5.  He married Connie as they had 3 children Alan, Kevin and the late Marsha Duis.  He was very active with the Presbyterian Church.  Dale hauled cattle and drove a lot of semis in his lifetime and gave up his CDL when he was 80 years old.  He worked for Fairbury Foods, Roelfs Trucking, Z Four and Rhoodes Feed Lot and previous employers.  He loved to watch the RDF and Rodeo channel.  In 2010 he married Harlana "Harley" Zimmerman where they lived in Colorado for a short time and later resided in Fairbury for the remaining of his lifetime.  Dale was a very kind, loving man who loved his children and grandchildren.  He loved to tell his good ole day stories about trucking or farming to anyone who would talk to him.  He absolutely loved the country and enjoyed sitting outside enjoying the countryside.  You could always assure Dale had his cowboy had on with a great big smile underneath it.  Dale owned several horses over the years, especially his last horse Dodger.  Dale had a love for his dog BJ for the last 11 years and have been inseparable, wherever you see Dale, BJ was sure to be found.  Dale was a friend to anyone who came across him.  He was definitely a strong cowboy up until the end of life.  He went peacefully at home on December 28, 2024.
