Ricky "Rick" Hanson
Ricky “Rick” Lynn Hanson, age 63, of Fairbury, Nebraska, passed away in his hometown of Fairbury, NE. Born on October 20, 1961, Rick was the son of Louis and Idonna Hanson. He spent his life dedicated to his family, his work, and the community he loved.
Rick was a proud graduate of Fairbury High School where he met the love of his life, Laurie Aken. The two were high school sweethearts and were married on January 15, 1982, during a memorable blizzard. Their union was a testament to love and perseverance, raising two children, Brandon Hanson and Barbie Lynn, and creating a legacy of joy and family togetherness.
Rick was known for his tireless work ethic, holding multiple jobs throughout his life to provide for his family and make cherished family vacations possible. He worked as an EMT and also contributed his skills at Ernie’s, Ray’s, Westin, Tractor Supply, and Lawn Mowing Service. Despite his busy schedule, Rick always made time for his passions, which included fishing, working in his yard, and perfecting the art of smoking a variety of meats—steaks, tenderloin, beer chicken, brisket, and chicken wings were among his specialties. Cooking for his family brought him immense joy, and his outdoor feasts will forever be remembered by those he loved.
Rick also had a deep appreciation for music, especially spiritual, country, and bluegrass. Whether he was working outside, relaxing with family, or spending time in reflection, the melodies of his favorite genres were a source of comfort and joy in his life.
A devoted grandfather, Rick shared countless fishing adventures and laughter-filled days with his grandchildren: Alexis Thivierge, Delanee Thivierge, Ryan Lynn, Rowan Lynn, Xavier Hanson, and Maleaha Hanson. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Cameron Rattz. Known as a "fun grandpa," Rick relished every moment with his grandkids, always bringing humor, warmth, and unforgettable tall tales.
Rick’s vibrant personality and dedication to his loved ones left an indelible mark on his community. He valued hard work, family, and the simple joys of life. Whether tending to his yard, sharing fishing tales, or perfecting a smoked meal, Rick’s love for life was evident to all who knew him.
Rick is survived by his wife of 42 years, Laurie; his children, Brandon Hanson and Barbie (Ryan)Lynn; his brother Mike Hanson (Marlys); his sisters Linda Collins and Angie Mitchell (Terry); brothers in law Don Aken Jr. (Rose) and Bruce Aken (Ronda) along with his grandchildren and great-grandchild; and countless other relatives and friends. His legacy of love and laughter will live on in their hearts. Preceded in death by father Louis Hanson Sr, mother Idonna Hanson, father-law-in Donald Aken Sr, grandparents and brother-in-law Thomas Collins.
