KEARNEY, Neb. — We now know the cause of the fire that destroyed a Taco John’s in Kearney.

The Nebraska State Fire Marshal Agency says the fire was accidental. It was caused by the spontaneous combustion of oil grease rags.

The fire was detected shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Oct. 9. It took five fire trucks and 20 firefighters to subdue the blaze. The fire marshal agency confirmed there were no injuries.

In an interview with News Channel Nebraska the day of the fire, owner Ed Wiltgen vowed to rebuild another Taco John’s in the place of the burned out building.

“We’ll scrape it off and then plan on building a new Taco John’s," Wiltgen said. "Our customer base here are all great people. We wouldn’t have lasted this long without them.”
