Mildred Ann (Monteil) Zach, 93, went to our Lord on August 18, 2024.

Millie was born January 24, 1931, to Edger and Rose Monteil in Argentine, (Kansas City) Kansas.  She was the second youngest of 12 children.

She attended Kansas City Schools and graduated in 1949 from Argentine High School.

After graduation, Millie took a hospital job as a nurses’ aide until she decided to join the Army Air Corp in 1953 during the Korean Conflict.  Millie was placed in the communications field and ran teletype machines, the forerunner to computers.

Her last station was at Offutt Air Force base, where she met Lawrence E. Zach.  Millie had gone on break and when she came back, Larry was on her machine, and she wanted him off.  Since she outranked Larry, he had no choice but to move.

Millie was honorably discharged from the Army Air Force in 1955.

A year later, on September 29, 1956, Millie married Larry in Kansas City, and they moved to Morrowville to help Larry’s parents farm and to start their family.  Together they had seven children:  Mary, Paul, Patrick, Laura, Alan, Philip, and Barbara.

As the family grew, they moved to Kansas City for work.  They moved back to Morrowville in 1980 after Larry retired, and they started farming once again.

In 1986 Larry died from a heart attack.

After all the kids graduated high school, Millie decided in 1996 to leave the farm and to go live with her daughter, Laura from 1996 to 2017, Millie lived in Hartford CT, Marrietta, GA, and Charlotte, NC where she had the time of her life.

In 2017, she moved to Firth, NE, where she lived with her children Paul and Laura until her passing.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence, son Alan, grandson Justin, and all her siblings except one sister.  There is a huge reunion still going on in heaven.

She is survived by her children; Mary Bryant (Jimmy), Paul (Kay (deceased)), Patrick (Rose Ann), Laura, Philip, and Barbara Novak, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, sister Jeanette, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A rosary is planned for August 25, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the Gerdes-Meyer funeral home in Fairbury NE.

On Monday, August 26, 2024, there will be a funeral mass at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fairbury at 9:00 a.m., followed by burial at Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery in Morrowville, KS, where Millie will be honored by the Army National Guard form Lincoln, NE.

A luncheon is planned at St. Michael’s after the burial.
