Robert “Bob” Weiss, 97 years of age, of Virginia passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. He was born on December 11, 1926 on the family farm near Virginia to George “Jake” and Edith (Erickson) Weiss. Bob graduated from Virginia Public School District #164 in 1944. From December 1950 to September 1952, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Bob was with the 24th Infantry Division in Korea and Japan. After being honorably discharged, he went back to farming with his father. The First Christian Church of Virginia is where he belonged until it closed. After that, Bob became a member of the First Christian Church in Beatrice. On a snowy day in Plymouth, he married Merline Hinz on March 20, 1960. They farmed near Plymouth for ten years. On August 5, 1965, Merline gave birth to their only son, Kevin. In 1970, the Weiss’s moved south of Virginia where they farmed. Bob served on the Sherman Township Board, was a charter member of Fisher Post #367 of the American Legion where he was Commander for 15 years. He was also a member of the Beatrice VFW and a 50 year Mason. Bob enjoyed gardening with Merline, Husker athletics, reading war stories and attending movies and shows. 

Bob is survived by his son, Kevin of Beatrice; brothers, Dwight “Jim” Weiss of Sterling, George A. Weiss of Tecumseh; sister, Alene Morasch of Walla Walla, Washington; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Merline; sister, Dorothy (Weiss) McKinzie; brother, Russel Weiss; and brothers-in-law, William “Bill” McKinzie, John “Jack” Rotzin and wife Pauline, Glen Morasch and Dean Hahn.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, June 14, 2024 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. Inurnment with military rites by the Nebraska Army National Guard Honor Guard and Fisher Post #367 of the American Legion will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. There will be no visitation but a register book will be available from 9 AM to 5 PM Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice.
