Doretta Rose Wiegand departed this life on February 4, 2024 trusting in the grace and mercy of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and for life everlasting in heaven, at the age 93 years. Doretta was born Feb. 13, 1930, at rural Diller, NE to Henry and Katherine (Hohbein) Janssen. She was baptized March 2, 1930, and confirmed April 18, 1943, both at Zion Lutheran Church, Harbine, NE.  Her confirmation verse was 2nd Corinthians 5:15 “He died for all, that they which lived should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them and rose again”.  She graduated from Fairbury High School. On October 18, 1953, she married Raymond Wiegand.  They farmed and raised five children together. They were long time members of Zion Lutheran Church. In 1983 they moved to Beatrice and joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  Raymond passed away on Jan. 6, 2009. She enjoyed quilting, working on puzzles, playing games, watching the birds and squirrels, coffee, chocolate candies and especially enjoyed seeing her family. 

Survivors include son, Joel (Terry) Wiegand of Grand Island; daughter-in-law, Cathy (Jim) Lyons of Janssen; son, Robert (Lisa) Wiegand of Beatrice; son, Lyndon Wiegand of Beatrice; daughter, Doreen (Roger) Woelfel of Giddings, TX; grandchildren, Jon (Michelle) Wiegand of Sioux Falls, SD, Nathan (Liz) Wiegand of Omaha, Matt (Courtney) Wiegand of Lincoln, Justin (Becky) Wiegand of Beatrice, Joshua Woelfel of Flatonia, TX, Tonya (Ryan) Pinson of Giddings TX; and great-grandchildren, Braelynn Wiegand, Amelia Wiegand, Lucas Wiegand, Ellie Wiegand, Jamie Wiegand, Zane Wiegand and Henry Pinson. 

She was preceded in death by husband, Raymond; son, Jerold; sister and brother-in-law, Erma and Fritz Gunther; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Viola Janssen; and infant brother, Harvey Janssen. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 9, 2024 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Beatrice with Pastor Daryn Bahn officiating. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice. Visitation will be at the Fox Funeral Home on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from noon until 8:00 P.M.  The family will meet and greet friends from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.  A memorial has been established to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Beatrice.   Arrangements entrusted to Fox Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Beatrice.
