Dale Gustav Gutzmer, 95, was born near Daykin, Nebraska on July 13, 1926 to Otto and Emma (Schwisow) Gutzmer.  He passed away on  Thursday, June 16, 2022 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, where he had been a resident since the fall of 2007.   

 Dale was a lifetime resident of the Daykin area attending school at both a rural school northeast of  Daykin and at Zion Lutheran School, Tobias.  As a young man,   Dale hired out as a farm hand to many area farmers.  He also had dairy cattle and milked with his brothers until 2002.

Dale was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church of rural Tobias, NE having been baptized  in the Lutheran faith  by Rev. E.O. Potratz on August 1, 1926, and was confirmed by Rev. William Nau on April 6, 1941  receiving the Lord's Supper faithfully as long as he was able. 

Dale proudly served his country in the Army as he  was inducted into the United States Army in August 10, 1945.  He took Basic Training at Camp Roberts, in California until December 1945, training in the infantry division.  After Christmas, Dale was sent to Virginia State and Brooklyn, New York for a short time.  In February 1946, Dale was sent to Fulda, Germany where he was a guard at the Army Base there until Christmas 1946.  Dale received his discharge in Illinois on January 27, 1947.  One of his proudest moments was receiving a Quilt of Valor at Meridian School on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2019.  

Dale was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Emma Gutzmer, his sibling and spouses:  Romaine (Orville) Nolte, Lorna ( William) Schaefer, Naomi (Frank) Adams, Homer Gutzmer, and Oran Gutzmer. Nephews:  Dennis Adams, Larry Adams, Robert Schaefer, and Merlin Nolte. 

He is survived by nephews and nieces:  Randall (Peggy) Nolte of Western, Lylice (Howard) Kuhns, Dean Schaefer, Jolene Adams, Randy Adams, Sandra Schaefer, and Vicki Nolte all of Fairbury, NE., and numerous great nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 10:30 am at Zion Lutheran Church, Tobias, NE. with Pastor Gideon Pullman officiating.  Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Memorials will go to the Lutheran Hour Ministries.  Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
