Trump hits Biden, disputes Herbster allegations; Herbster talks border, China
GREENWOOD - On Sunday, thousands returned to I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE. for the Save America rally featuring governor hopeful Charles Herbster and former president Donald Trump.
The rally was postponed from Friday to Sunday due to weather, but a number of conservative speakers took the stage before a long speech from Herbster and the former POTUS.
Since his campaign began, Charles Herbster has emphasized what he believes is the importance of protecting the US border to Mexico in order to keep jobs open and slow down the drug trade in Nebraska. However, he told supporters his true stance on immigration.
“They say, well, he’s [Herbster is] against immigration,” Herbster said. “I’m for immigration…legal immigration.”
Herbster says becoming and being an American comes with ground rules.
“You need to truly want to be an American, you need to be one of us, you need to honor God, our flag, and you need to learn to speak English,” Herbster said.
Herbster also shared his thoughts on China, both their involvement with the United States and the COVID-19 pandemic.
“China brought us the pandemic. Let’s call it for what it is, and Dr. Fauci should be impeached,” Herbster said. “China wants to take us down. Every single day they want to take us down. They’re buying businesses, they’re buying farm land, they’re infiltrating the United States of America... As your governor, China will not buy one acre of land in the state of Nebraska.”
Former president Donald Trump has endorsed Herbster for governor and was quick to dispel Herbster’s recent alleged actions of sexual misconduct.
“Charles W. Herbster will never bend to the RINOs, media, the radical left,” Trump said. “He doesn’t even know about this stuff. Charles is a fine man and he is innocent of these despicable charges.”
My Pillow CEO and conservative political activist Mike Lindell was a featured speaker at the event. Lindell claims the election was stolen and explained what occurred in Nebraska. He claims Trump lost over 80,000 votes in the Cornhusker state, despite earning the win.
“In the county of Lancaster, Donald Trump is said to have lost by 12,000, he actually won by 2,000,” Lindell said. “In Douglas County, he had 23,000 votes stolen, here in Cass County, he had 1,200 votes stolen.”
Throughout his over 90-minute speech, Trump had a number of negative comments about Joe Biden.
“Joe Biden and the radical left have turned calm into chaos, competence into incompetence, stability into anarchy, prosperity into poverty, and security into catastrophe,” Trump said. “Otherwise they’re doing a fantastic job.”
He also went after Biden’s plan for handling the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the COVID-19 pandemic, gas prices, and his relations with foreign allies.
“I never realized how important being president was until I’ve watched someone go over to Europe and embarrass our country,” Trump said.
While Herbster has the major endorsements of both Trump and South Dakota Gov. Kristy Noem, UNL regent Jim Pillen has the endorsement of Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts, while Brett Lindstrom has the support of Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert. Herbster tells News Channel Nebraska he’s happy with his in-state endorsements such as Lt. Governor Mike Foley and a number of Senators, but he said Noem's and Trump’s endorsements are huge because they make decisions similar to himself.
“They are not part of the establishment. They are not part of the RINO group, they are making decisions everyday, as I will for governor, not for a political career, not for the politicians, not for the lobbyists, but for the people here today,” Herbster said. “The ones who are true Nebraskans, that pay taxes, go to work everyday, and they want a state that is more prosperous and that has less taxes.”
A recent poll showed Herbster as the slight front runner over Jim Pillen and Brett Lindstrom. The primary electionnis May 10.
