BEATRICE – Firefighters were sent to a southeast Nebraska house fire in the early hours of Friday.

Beatrice Firefighters responded to the blaze in the south part of the city, at the intersection of Second and Franklin Streets.   Officials observed flames and thick smoke coming from the one-story home, which has an attic and attached garage.  It’s located off the northwest corner of the intersection.

Firefighters just before four a.m. entered the front door of the home with a fire line and later summoned the department’s aerial truck to spray water onto the center roof of the structure.  Another fire line was used toward the rear of the home.

According to emergency radio traffic, the home was evacuated by the time firefighters arrived, and one female occupant reportedly was checked over for smoke inhalation.

Department officials connected to two hydrants that were near the scene.

There’s no immediate word on where the fire started and what caused it.   No word regarding if any injuries were sustained battling the flames.

The fire call came in at 3:42 a.m.   Beatrice fire officials summoned a state fire marshal deputy to investigate the fire.
