Gage County Sheriff warns of get out of jail scam

GAGE COUNTY, Neb. - The Gage County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam involving callers posing as detention center officials.
According to the the sheriff's office, a Gage County resident reported receiving a call around after midnight on Dec. 22, from an unknown number saying his brother could be released from jail if he paid for an ankle monitor. While the brother had been arrested earlier, officials confirmed no judge had signed a release order and no ankle monitor was required.
The caller recognized the scam and did not send money, instead alerted family members and the sheriff’s office.
Authorities advise anyone contacted about bonding out of jail or other law enforcement matters to verify the information by calling Southeast Communications at 402-223-5221, extension 1.
