Game and Parks to hold public meeting about deer population in Johnson County

TECUMSEH, Neb. - Nebraska Game and Parks is set to hold a public meeting to gain information about deer population in southeast Nebraska.
The meeting will discuss deer population along a 12-mile stretch of Highway 136 in Johnson County.
Game and Parks has been requested to reduce deer numbers about 1 mile on either side of the highway between Fairbury and the Missouri River. The key area of interest is the stretch of Highway 136 beginning 1 mile west of the Gage/Johnson county line and ending 2 miles east of Vesta.
Game and Parks says the goal of the meeting is to gain information and experiences from landowners, hunters, and area residents about their perceptions and desires for deer in the area.
The area to be discussed is mostly made up of cropland and deciduous woods, bordering the Blue Southeast and Blue Southwest deer management units, which offer firearm and season choice antler-less only permits.
The meeting is set for Tuesday, Sept. 16, in Tecumseh, at the Tecumseh Fire Hall.
