Melvin E. Andrews
Melvin E. Andrews, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at Beatrice Health and Rehabilitation. Born on December 22, 1931, near Virginia, Nebraska, Melvin lived a life marked by dedication, wit, generosity, and love. His steadfast commitment was evident in his long tenure at Store Kraft Manufacturing, where he worked on the line from 1955 until his retirement in 1997. Melvin's witty sense of humor brought joy and laughter to all who knew him, while his generosity was shown in his many gardens, which he shared with friends and neighbors.
Melvin was a loving husband to his late wife, Charlotte Ann Chaney, whom he married on August 4, 1957, and a dedicated father to his daughter Sherri Jackson and his grandsons Austin Jackson and Blake Jackson. He was a graduate of Union Center High School, class of 1951, and a man of many passions, including woodworking, cracking walnuts, and going for coffee and lunch with friends. In his later years, Melvin found comfort and joy in these simple pleasures, living out the truth of Albert Einstein's words: "The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library."
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mabel Andrews; his beloved wife, Charlotte Andrews; son-in-law, Mark Jackson; siblings, Vera (Chuck) Brand, Virgie Andrews; brothers-in-law, Joe VonRotz and John Andrews; sister-in-law, Kathie Andrews; and nephew, Mike Colgrove. He leaves behind his daughter Sherri Jackson and grandsons, Austin Jackson and Blake (Alicia) Jackson; a great grandchild on the way; siblings, Evelyn VonRotz, Fern (Dave) Colgrove, Troy (Charlotte) Andrews, Mildred (John) Edson, Lois (Ken) Hurt, Floyd Andrews, and Marilyn Redman; many nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and many friends who will remember him as a pillar of strength and love.
