Russell Jennings “Rusty” Klein, 73, of Adams, passed away Thursday night, April 4, 2024, at CHI Heart Hospital in Lincoln surrounded by his family. He was born on September 13, 1950, in Lincoln to Russell and Ardyth Klein, the youngest of their two children. He graduated from Adams High School in 1968.  Rusty grew up and resided in the Adams area his entire life.  He became a familiar face in the Adams community with his family business, Klein Hardware, where he dedicated 45+ years.

On September 19, 1969, he married his high school sweetheart, Gwendolyn Fay Ideus at the American Lutheran Church in Adams.  They were blessed with two children and built a life around their family and friends.  He was known by those closest to him for not being afraid to crack a joke and smile, for his outdoorsmanship, and for the work ethic he instilled in others.  One could find Rusty in his happiest places nearby creeks, artifact hunting, vacationing in Shell Knob, MO and Grand Lake, CO, or simply outback chopping wood.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and taking walks on the farm with his dogs.

Survivors include his wife, Gwen Klein of Adams; son, Brian (Genell) Klein; daughter, Sara (Michael) Grosshans; four grandchildren, Jessie and Cassie Klein, and Baron and Lauren Grosshans; nieces and nephews; pet dogs, Finn and Kobie.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell S. and Ardyth (Garrison) Klein; sister, Bev Klein; brother-in-law, Orville Lou Klein.
