BEATRICE – A camper fire northwest of Beatrice sent Beatrice Rural Fire Department equipment and personnel to the scene, Sunday night.
The fire was reported at 8:46 p.m., at the Oak Aven Acres R-V Park along Southwest 75th Road, about a half-mile north of the Homestead National Historical Park Heritage Center.

Two Beatrice Rural Fire trucks were initially sent to the scene, but some equipment returned to service, soon after. Chief Matt Langley says it was a small fire that property owners were able to gain control of.

"It was put out with a fire extinguisher upon our arrival. When we got on scene, we did some overhaul, and found some electrical smoldering. We disconnected that and made sure everything was out in the floor of the camper and up into the walls."

According to Southeast Communications dispatch traffic, the fire was completely out by 9:35 p.m., and all rural units were cleared from the scene.

"No burn injuries. The owner was there at the time and got a knock on his door that there was some smoke from the bottom. Everybody was able to get out safely."

Several camping units were using the park at the time of the fire.
