Early Sunday fire damages vehicles, at SCC-Beatrice
BEATRICE – Two vehicles were damaged by fire early Sunday on a college campus in southeast Nebraska.
A sport utility vehicle was destroyed by fire and a compact car parked next to it had fire damage to the passenger side, at the Beatrice Campus of Southeast Community College. Beatrice Fire and Rescue firefighters and a truck were sent to a north side campus parking lot just before 5:30 a.m.
Campus Security Director Mark Meints says an overnight security officer noticed the fire on one of the campus security cameras. No one was around the vehicles at the time of the fire and firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.
There were no injuries. The parking lot where the vehicles caught fire is next to the sites where both Jackson and Adams Halls were recently demolished.
Meints said an investigator from the Nebraska Fire Marshals’ Office was summoned to the college to examine the cause of the fire.
