Fairbury kicks off 2025 weekend farmers market season
It's the first few days of May, but the return of a longstanding weekend tradition on Saturday signaled the start of summer this weekend in Fairbury.
The city enjoyed a beautiful morning Saturday for the first installment this year of the town's weekly weekend downtown Farmers Market.
May 4th marked the first day this year local vendors from all across Southeast Nebraska - mostly in and around Fairbury but some from the surrounding areas - set up their shops on the corner of 4th and D Streets in the shadow of the Jefferson County Courthouse.
The vendors sell all kinds of products and goods, from home-grown eggs and honey, other foodstuffs like sandwiches, jelly and bread, and some hand-crafted gear like aprons, jewelery, and dolls.
There were only a half dozen vendors on the scene for the season opener but the total varies from week to week - and Fairbury is looking for more sellers this year following the retirement of two long-time produce producers.
If you're interested in being a vendor or simply checking out this local tradition for yourself, the Fairbury farmer's market runs every Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM from now until September.
