New Beatrice Elementary School completed under initial cost figure

BEATRICE – The construction cost of the new Beatrice prekindergarten to fifth grade elementary school came in slightly under budget.
Superintendent Jason Alexander says the original price tag was placed at just over $40.68 million dollars. But the final cost checked in at almost $39.86 million.
Alexander told District 15 Board members Monday night that the district was still awaiting word on a potential $500,000 rebate on the installation of the project’s geothermal system. The general contractor for the project was Hausmann Construction.
The new school off Lincoln Street is in its first year of operation and replaces four separate buildings that were nearly 70-years-old.

Alexander estimated that the City of Beatrice will take possession of the former Stoddard and Cedar Elementary school buildings on October 8th. Auctions of surplus equipment at both buildings were held last Friday. Auctions of surplus equipment will soon be held at the Paddock Lane and Lincoln Elementary buildings. Alexander said those will be on separate dates.
Those buildings are likely to be turned over to the City of Beatrice in October or November. The city is planning for residential development at both sites.
