Mary Ellen Marschman (née Zimmerman), age 81, of Fairbury, NE, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024 after battling cancer. Born on July 7, 1943, in Hays, KS, Mary was a cherished figure in her community and is fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Mary proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1961 to 1963, displaying commendable dedication and spirit. Following her service, she moved to Fairbury and worked at Elgerts Supper Club where she met Clarence Marschman. They were married on April 25th, 1969, for 55 loving years. 

She embraced the roles of farm wife and homemaker with grace and resilience. Mary also contributed to her community through her work at the Fairbury Public Schools Cafeteria.

A devout member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jansen, NE, and then the American Lutheran Church in Fairbury, NE, Mary was deeply involved in various church activities. She was an active participant in her church quilting circle, Braille workers, and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML). Mary also taught Sunday School, enriching the lives of many children with her wisdom and kindness.

Mary’s hobbies included participating in a 7-point pitch card club with neighbors, womens' and mixed doubles league bowling, and volunteering with the American Legion Auxiliary. These activities reflected her fun sociable nature and her commitment to fellowship and service.

She is survived by her loving husband, Clarence Marschman; daughter, Michele Marschman; son-in-law, Bill Hamilton; son, Jason Marschman; daughter-in-law, Nikole Marschman (Sokolik); grandchildren, Shayna, Jenna, Tony, Addison, and Sophie Marschman; sister, Joanne Moore (Leo); cousin, Paul Luedemann (Bonnie); brother-in-law, Ernest Marschman Jr; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her infant son, John Marschman; parents, Fredrick Zimmerman Sr and Linnette Zimmerman (Wagner); siblings, Katherine Henderson (Eldon), Alvin Zimmerman, and Frederick Zimmerman Jr.; nephew, Darrell Zimmerman. 

Services will be held at American Lutheran Church, 1111 12th Street, Fairbury, Nebraska, on Monday, September 16th at 10:30 AM. Visitation will take place at Gerdes Meyer Funeral Home, 2414 H St, Fairbury, Nebraska, on Sunday, September 15th from 2 pm to 8 pm with family visitation from 2 to 5.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family's choice. The Gerdes Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury, NE, is assisting the family during this time. Mary’s warmth and generosity will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
