BEATRICE, NEB. - The Nebraska National Guard is continuing to strengthen relationships with communities in the Cornhusker state.

On Thursday, a number of community partnership events are scheduled in Beatrice, with one taking place Thursday morning. Community leaders and service men and women gathered at the Veterans Park in south Beatrice for a wreath laying.

Beatrice native Sgt. Jared Ideus discussed the meaning of Tuesday's events.

"We're just trying to tighten our strengths in our communities," Ideus said. "We can't serve our great country without our great communities, especially in the state of Nebraska."

Beatrice Mayor Bob Morgan spoke at the ceremony, noting the sacrifices made by those in service.

"I have understood the sacrifices by going out and going somewhere like Afghanistan and leaving your loved ones behind," Morgan said. "For all the military members here today, I want to give you my heartfelt thank you for everything you do do to protect our country."
