Delores “Dee” J. (Spomer) Donahue, 96 years of age, of Sabetha, Kansas, formerly of Pawnee City passed away Monday, July 8, 2024 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas. Delores and her mirror image twin Gloria La Vonn Spomer were born in Lincoln on March 5, 1928, daughters of German speaking Russian immigrants John and Elizabeth (Pabst) Spomer. John and Elizabeth were born in Talovka, Russia and immigrated to the United States in the early 1900’s. Delores and her twin sister were the youngest of six children, including John E. Spomer, Frances (Spomer) Lutz, Flora (Spomer) Johnson and Wesley Alfred Spomer.

Delores and Gloria only spoke German as young girls and were not allowed to start school until they were fluent in the English language. They, along with the rest of the children, were raised on South 8th Street in Lincoln which at the time was known as the Russian flats, as all of their neighbors were also Russian immigrants. They attended Everett Junior High School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947.  The Spomer family were active members of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. 

Delores and Gloria worked at the Five and Dime Store while attending high school, and then went to work at the Elgin Watch Factory in Lincoln after graduating from high school. The Elgin Watch Factory ceased operations in Lincoln in 1958.

Delores was united in marriage to Michael J. Donahue, Jr. on June 15, 1957 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln shortly after Mike graduated from Creighton University School of Law. Delores received her P.H.T Degree (Pulling Husbands Through) on the 4th day of May, 1959 from Creighton University School of Law.

Delores and Mike had two children, Michael Joseph and Patrick John. She spent her time as a homemaker, raising her two sons in Pawnee City. Over the years, Delores was a member of the 20th Century Club, and was also active in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Steinauer. Her hobbies included cooking, traveling, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.

Delores is survived by her sons, Patrick Donahue of Pawnee City, Michael Donahue, III and fiancé Debra Leif of Papillion; twin sister, Gloria Feichtinger of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Katrina Johnsen and husband Ryan, Holly Seward and husband Marty, Brandi Keller and husband Tyson, Dayna Donahue-Miranda; 7 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Callam of Beatrice; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael J. Donahue, Jr. on December 7, 2014; brothers, Wesley Spomer and wife Janet, John Spomer and wife Maxine; sisters, Frances Lutz and husband Carl, Flora Johnson and husband Gus; brothers-in-law, Duane Feichtinger, Nathan “Bud” Callam, Charles Donahue, Joseph Donahue; and sister-in-law, Lillian Callam and husband Glen.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 22, 2024 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Steinauer. Inurnment will be in the Pawnee City Cemetery at a later date.
