Bicyclist dies after accident with pickup in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha Police Department said they are investigating a fatal bicycle accident.
Officials said they were called for a personal injury crash on Saturday around 6:08 p.m.
OPD said patrol officers were dispatched to the crash that involved a homemade, motorized bicycle at 72nd and Pratt.
According to police, the investigation of the accident told them that a Ford F-150 that was heading north hit the motorized bicycle that was heading west.
The motorized bike reportedly didn't stop at the stop sign.
The bicyclist, 45-year-old John Turpen of Omaha, was taken to Nebraska Medicine by Omaha Fire Department medics with serious head injuries.
Trupen was taken into surgery, but died a few hours later.
OPD said the driver of the pickup was cooperative.
This is an ongoing investigation.
