Ricky Siebert, 72, of Fairbury, NE, passed away on May 28, 2022 after a courageous battle with lung cancer and other respiratory conditions.

Ricky was born on September 3, 1949 to Bill and LaVerne Siebert in Harvey, North Dakota. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1969 and served bravely in Vietnam. He then went on to study Communications and Radio/TV at Fort Hays State University where he received a Bachelors and Masters degree.

Soon after, he met Velma Bentley and they were wed in 1972. They had two children, Melea and Roric.

After graduating from college, he began working for KFRM in Salina, KS in sales and was "on-air." He continued his career working in radio sales and management. In 1983, he bought KGMT-AM in Fairbury, Nebraska. That summer he began construction on KUTT. He later upgraded KUTT from a class C-300 watt station to a class A 100 thousand watt which doubled its listening area. This made the station reach as far as it could go.

Years later he opened an office and studio in Beatrice and went on to purchase KWBE-AM to add to the Siebert Communications lineup.

Rick put a unique stamp on radio in the area with his golf tournaments and car giveaways that would pack the Diller Opera House to things that Ol'Red 99-5 still continues to use like the Radio Auction and the Annual Free Thanksgiving Day Meal.

Siebert loved to golf, read, enjoy new restaurants and spend time with his children and grandkids. Rick passed away quietly at his home with family present.

Ricky was predeceased by his wife Velma, brother Billy and parents William and LaVerne. He is survived by his daughter Melea Siebert (48 yo), son Roric Siebert (45 yo) , grandsons Beckett (13 yo) and Kyson Siebert (10 yo), and sisters Gayle Fritz (70 yo), Robyn Carr (68 yo), Tina Novak (60 yo) and Benny Siebert.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the scholarship he created in his late wife's name, the Velma Siebert Nursing Scholarship.

Services will be Monday, June 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Foursquare Church in Fairbury.  In Lieu of flowers, memorials are to the Velma Siebert Nursing Scholarship Fund.  The family will greet friends, Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
