The Nebraska men's golf team travels to Dallas, TX, for the final tournament of the fall season at the 11th annual Royal Oaks Intercollegiate hosted by Baylor University. The first and second rounds begin on Monday with the final round being played on Tuesday.
The 12-team field will consist of two top-15 teams in SMU (#6) and Baylor (#11). There is also two Big Ten teams joining the Huskers, as Michigan and Iowa will also be in the field. Rounding out the field is UNC-Charlotte, Kansas State, Kent State, Liberty, New Mexico, North Texas and UTSA.
"Royal Oaks is good field every year and the golf course is perfect for the format. It"s a unique format while we still count our best 4 of 5 scores on each round, all five of our players will play together in one group. The entire field has to adjust to it and be exceptional in maintaining individual focus on your own game and timing. We"re excited to be here and have some familiarity with the golf course," said Head Coach Mark Hankins.
Last time out, the Huskers finished 10th at the Maridoe Intercollegiate. Senior Tanner Owen and junior Tom Westenberger led the Huskers with T-12 and T-14 finishes, respectively.
Joining Owen and Westenberger in the lineup will be junior Branden Meyer, who is making his fourth consecutive appearance in the starting lineup. Meyer is currently second on the team in stroke average with a 75.77.
Sophomore Caleb Badura will make his third start of the season at Royal Oaks. Badura is third on the team in scoring average with a 76.83. Badura finished tied for 37th at the Prairie Club Invitational and tied for 44th at the Rod Myers/Duke Invitational.
Rounding out the lineup will be freshman Will Marshall. Marshall competed in his first collegiate tournament at the Maridoe Intercollegiate. Marshall finished tied for 45th, after a solid first round of 73 (+1) which placed him in the top-ten heading into the second round.
Monday's rounds will begin at 8:15 a.m. with Tuesday's round beginning at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available on www.golfstat.com.
