Barneston Rural Fire to Add Tax Support From Village Residents
BEATRICE – The Barneston Rural Fire Protection District will now be able to receive tax support from the village of Barneston, itself.
There was no opposition during a public hearing Wednesday, to a plan to have the rural district’s service territory include property within the incorporated village limits.
Barneston is a small village located in the southeast corner of Gage County, not far from the Nebraska-Kansas border.
Attorney Michael Willett represents both the Barneston Rural Fire Protection District and the Village. He says the same type of issue came up with the fire district’s service to the village of Liberty. In this case, Barneston Village officials inquired of the district, about what would be a fair payment for supporting the rural district.
The change in rural fire district boundary included in a resolution passed by the county board, is effective, July 1st.
The Barneston Rural Fire Protection District this year began using a new fire hall, funded by private donations and grants.
