LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A petition drive that seeks to lower Nebraska property taxes by sharply cutting state revenue is gaining steam and donations despite concerns that it would force lawmakers to raise other taxes and cut state services. The petition group TRUE Nebraskans now has more than 200 volunteers gathering signatures throughout the state and is planning to add paid circulators soon.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - More flooding is likely along the Missouri River after heavy rains and flooding upstream in South Dakota. The National Weather Service says some moderate flooding is likely this week along the river between Sioux City, Iowa, and Rulo, Nebraska. Some parts of South Dakota received as much as 7 inches of rain over two days. The Missouri River is expected to crest later this week after rising significantly.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Omaha Police are investigating a fatal weekend shooting. The Omaha World-Herald reports the shooting that fatally injured 26-year-old Deandre Hines happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers were responding to a disturbance in northeast Omaha when the shooting was reported. They found Hines with a gunshot wound to his chest.

BELLEVUE, Neb. (AP) - An Omaha suburb is planning to scrap bicycle lanes along one of its main thoroughfares in favor of more lanes for cars. The Omaha World-Herald reports Bellevue plans to spend $20,000 this fall to remove the 6-year-old bicycle lanes and restore Fort Crook Road to six lanes of traffic.
