Vernon L. McAlister, of Beatrice, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 30, 2025, at Fallbrook Memory Care in Lincoln.  He was born on November 3, 1948, in Beatrice to Willard and Emma (Johnson) McAlister.  Vernon graduated from Beatrice High School in 1967 and studied engineering at UNL.  For over 50 years he did many construction projects in southeast Nebraska working alongside his father.  He also owned and managed rental property in Beatrice.  Vernon was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Beatrice and enjoyed basketball, track, tennis, bike riding, music, reading, and was a continual learner.   

Survivors include his sister, Donna Kizzier of Ashland; brother, Alvin (Barbara) McAlister of Topeka; nieces and nephews, Nicole Lieter, Dana Kizzier, Jessica (Brian) Anderson, Jennifer McAlister, and Courtney Weaver; several great-nieces and great-nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Emma McAlister; nephews, Roy Kizzier and Ryan Kizzier.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Chaplain John Lewis officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice.  The body will lie in state on Monday, November 3, 2025, from noon until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
